Flagship Press makes commitment to wind power
All of firm’s 2008 energy use to come from renewable, clean sources
Flagship Press of North Andover, Mass., one of the largest privately-owned printing, marketing and distribution companies north of Boston, has agreed to purchase all of its energy needs for 2008 from a Pennsylvania distributor that markets and sells energy generated from renewable sources including windy energy.

“We are proud to say that we are 100 percent powered by the wind,” said Flagship Vice President Christopher Poor. “This purchase, along with other eco-friendly business practices, demonstrates our continued commitment to protecting the environment through sustainability.”

This clean energy choice will be supplied by wind energy marketer and developer Community Energy.

Flagship Press will buy 1,997,000 kilowatt hours of renewable energy credits. Compared to the average generation mix in the national electric grid, the environmental benefit from this purchase is equal to offsetting approximately 1,230 metric tons of carbon dioxide, the impact equivalent to planting more than 1,100 acres or removing 3.1 million miles or driving from the country’s highways. This commitment qualifies Flagship as a Green Power Leader among the Environmental Protection Agency’s Green Power Partnership.

“Flagship Press has stepped up as a leader in the printing industry,” said Community Energy President Brent Alderfer. “Their renewable energy purchase puts their energy dollars to work to further U.S. energy independence, economic growth and a healthier planet. As more companies choose to follow their lead and purchase renewable energy, we can bring more clean power resources online to meet that demand.”

Flagship Press’ wind power commitment is a natural step in furthering the company’s environmental goals. In addition to supporting clean energy, Flagship Press is FSC certified, uses energy efficient lighting, soy-based inks and Green-Seal Certified cleaning products. They also recycle 100 percent of their paper waste, which is equal to 960 tons of paper each year.
