Curry Printing helps students learn about printing
Westborough, Mass. printer hosts more than 60 students from Bay Path Regional Voke Tech
Curry Printing hosted more than 60 students and instructors from Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical High School recently for a tour and demonstrations at its main prepress and printing facility in Westborough, Mass.

According to Curry Executive Vice President Joe Gardner, the educational event was part of Curry’s efforts to help inform area students about the careers and opportunities available in the printing industry.

“Printing has evolved into a highly computerized field that uses advanced digital techniques and computer equipment to prepare and print all sorts of materials used for a wide variety of purposes,” Gardner said. “We believe it’s important for today’s students to understand the skills and knowledge needed to pursue a career in the printing industry.”

Curry employees gave the Bay Path students a comprehensive tour of the company’s new facility on Route 9 in Westborough. The tour included stops in the prepress, digital processing, press, bindery, and mailing departments. They learned how digital files are processed to be used to print a wide range of brochures, flyers, and catalogs. After printing, they saw how multi-page pieces are collated, bound and, in some cases, prepared for mailing directly from the plant.

Students were able to ask employees questions about their jobs and how the equipment worked. According to Bay Path instructor, John Brochu, the students were particularly interested in how digital files from a personal computer could be used to produce enormous high resolution color posters used in exhibits and trade shows; as well as how the latest digital printing presses take computer files directly from a PC and produce high quality printed pieces without making traditional printing plates.

In addition to its 17,000 square foot operation on Route 9 in Westborough, Curry Printing has a printing facility at 165 Southbridge St. in Worcester. Curry offers a wide range of commercial printing and digital output services, including digital and traditional offset color printing, high volume digital photocopying, large format color graphics, computer file output, engineering documentation services, and more.
