We move so fast, we often fail to see what we’re doing or we’re
so preoccupied with what we want to accomplish, we are blind to how

Why family business succession plans fail —
and planning strategies that work
By Jeff Harris
A seminal event occurred this year that will have a profound impact
on family businesses in the years to come. The first baby-boomer turned
60 and here is why it’s such a big deal. Many of these baby-boomers
own successful businesses and they’re seriously thinking about
(if they haven’t done it already) reducing their work schedule
so they can spend more time doing the things they love. For those with
a son or daughter who is working in the family business, it’s
natural to want to pass the business on to them. (More)

the words most people think of when they imagine a typical copy shop
atmosphere. But, Copy Cop, The Digital Printing Company, on Newbury

Hyper Competition: Suppliers search for a market
leading success formula
By David Tashji
As many have observed, the competitive dynamics of the print service
provider market continue to evolve rapidly, and have resulted in a major
realignment of the players on the supply side of the industry.Large,
well-capitalized, or dominant competitors such as Heidelberg, Komori,
MAN, Hewlett Packard, Eastman Kodak, Fujifilm and Xerox (amongst others)
are making significant investments that have the potential to re-shape
the industry “game-board.” A consolidation of the smaller
or weaker players is already underway. These events are playing out
in the context of a generally stabilizing market for printing and related
communications services, but that also possess growing potential for
digital technologies to address high-margin and high-value emerging
market opportunities with production digital color high-speed ink-jet,
dry toner and automated offset printing solutions.

New printer means further automation in color management
By Ron Ellis
It’s been a long time since HP had a brand
new printer aimed at the proofing market. The HP Designjet Z3100 series
of printers is finally here, and it shows promise. Although this printer
may fail to knock Epson and their dominant Ultrachrome K3 inks from
the top position in our market when used for quality proofing and color
matching, this new HP printer has some important new features that make
it special when compared to any printer out there. This printer and
the changes in software that are being made to accommodate it are revolutionary.
It is a sign of things to come in the near future.
