Third annual
event honors Odyssey Press co-owner who died on Sept. 11th
Parker said 132 golfers played a full round of golf at The Links at Outlook in South Berwick, Maine to honor Stone who was a passenger aboard American Airlines Flight 11, which was hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center North Tower. “We had golfers from California, Georgia, Florida, Pennsylvania, and across New England who participated to honor Doug,” Parker said. “We had a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. to remember Doug and all the victims of 9/11. We had volunteers stationed on the front and back nine that simultaneously sounded air horns for the start and conclusion of the moment of silence. It was a poignant moment for all participants of the tournament.” Income generated from the Douglas J. Stone Scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior from Stone’s alma mater, Dover, N.H. High School, who has an interest in pursuing graphic arts studies. |
