Five
marketing and sales mysteries revealed
By John Graham
In the months leading up to the introduction of the iPhone, rumors abounded
— and Apple did nothing to quell them. Nothing. No comment. According
to Tim Beyers of the Motley Fool, as reported in The New York Times,
“When Apple does nothing to stop rumors from circulating, the
feeding frenzy gets more and more intense. They like the pot to be stirred
and not to disturb it, just like a fine sauce simmering. By talking
sparingly, they get talked about.” (More)

Guerrilla
marketing
When it’s good, it’s great. When it’s bad, it’s
illegal
By Steve White
The marketing campaign for Cartoon Network’s Aqua Teen Hunger
Force paralyzed a major city, resulted in a $2 million fine, put two
people in jail and one high-level network executive out of a job. It
also brought the term “Guerrilla marketing” to the forefront
of America’s consciousness. When done correctly and with precise
planning it can be extremely effective, such as the Guerrilla marketing
firm that placed signs around cities looking for missing socks, all
used to publicize a Sci-Fi Channel TV show about the Bermuda Triangle.
But when it’s not well planned, the results, as we saw in Boston,
can be devastating.
Camera
RAW: To process or not to process
What it is and how and when to work with it
By Ron Ellis
From a prepress perspective, a CMYK TIFF file is a usually the preferred
way to save image files, however, most images are not created by prepress
professionals. Often they are created by professional photographers,
or by someone simply using a digital camera to take photos. Most often
the result delivered by these cameras is an RGB JPEG or TIFF file. From
time to time, however, you may receive a RAW file. The camera RAW file
format can be dangerous for inexperienced users, but there are times
when prepress professionals have a reason to use it.
