Everyone
should know the value of time & materials
By Jack J. Epstein
Most people in your company probably know the price of a gallon of milk,
a sheet of three-quarter inch plywood, their monthly home utility bills
and the hourly rate of their automobile mechanic. But can they even
guess the value of a contract proof, a 40-inch plate, 1,000 sheets of
coated stock, a can of ink, the hourly rate of a folding machine or
the company’s monthly electric bill? If you want to be serious
about cost saving initiatives, put together a laundry list of your common
inventory items and incorporate it in your orientation package and procedure
books. More importantly, take the time to go over it with all employees
in a classroom environment.
Electricity
deregulation in Massachusetts means changes are on the way
By John J. Scibelli and Douglas C. Smith
Customers of Massachusetts’ major electric utilities have been
able to shop for alternative suppliers since 1998, while the utilities
have continued to provide service at a relatively predictable price.
That will change beginning March 1. The price will be determined by
competition in the energy marketplace, and it will change more often.
Many businesses across the state have prepared for this significant
change by finding competitive power suppliers and in some cases signing
long-term contracts.
