OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Outreach Training for the Printing Industry: Descriptions
Introduction to OSHA – 1 Hour
Discusses OSHA’s role toward helping to make workplaces safer. Includes description of OSHA, OSHA’s goals and mission, OSHA resources, OSHA Recordkeeping, OSHA inspections and how to deal with OSHA.

Walking & Working Surfaces – 1 Hour
Explains OSHA requirements to prevent slips, trips and falls. Reviews requirements for general housekeeping, aisles, guardrails, wall and floor openings, platforms, stairs and ladders.

Means of Egress & Fire Protection – 1 Hour
Discusses OSHA’s requirements for ensuring employees have a safe and efficient means of leaving a facility under emergency circumstances. Reviews requirements for your building and site and describes how to set up your emergency procedures.

Electrical Safety – 1 Hour
Discusses the hazards associated with electricity and common electrical safety problems. Reviews frequent electrical safety OSHA violations.

Flammable & Combustible Liquids – 1 Hour
Discusses the hazards, safe storage and safe handling practices for flammable and combustible liquids. Reviews use of flammable storage cabinets and flammable storage rooms. Reviews grounding and bonding requirements.

Hazard Communication – 1 Hour
Discusses what employees should know about the chemical hazards at the facility. Reviews container labeling, material safety data sheets, hazards associated with printing chemicals and employees rights under OSHA’s “Right to Know” rules.

Personal Protective Equipment & Hearing Conservation – 1 Hour
Discusses the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at your facility. Reviews hazard assessments and eliminating risks that would otherwise require PPE. Reviews PPE types such as gloves, eye safety glasses, face shields, aprons, hearing protectors and proper footwear. Reviews the requirements of OSHA’s Hearing Conservation Standard including noise monitoring and audiometric examinations.

Machine Guarding – 1 Hour
Discusses OSHA’s machine guard requirements. Reviews hazard assessments and types of machine guarding. Specifically discusses machine guarding for equipment related to printing industry.

Lockout/Tagout – 1 Hour
Discusses the concepts of controlling hazardous energy during maintenance of equipment. Reviews lockout/tagout procedures for printing equipment and how to implement an effective program.

Ergonomics – 1 Hour
Discusses how to identify ergonomic hazards and how to prevent ergonomic injuries. Discusses specific printing industry workstations and activities. Materials are from The Ergonomic Guidebook developed by the printing industry under an OSHA grant.
